In Honour: Musqueam Carving and Culture

In advance of Truth and Reconciliation Week and Orange Shirt Day, Magee Secondary School unveiled an innovative Coast Salish art and film project in collaboration with Musqueam Artists, Kerrisdale and Marpole businesses and community.

The ‘In-Honour: Magee-Musqueam Unveiling Ceremony and Celebration’ was held at Magee Secondary School on Friday, September 23, 2022. The event incorporated a traditional Musqueam Unveiling Ceremony with Musqueam Performers, Coastal Wolf Pack, singer, Miss Christie Lee and the premiere of the accompanying film, “In-Honour: Musqueam Carving and Culture.”

The art/film project produced in partnership with In-Light Productions and Leap Creative Group invited the viewer into an experiential learning journey that introduced Musqueam artists and carving, the history and the evolving culture of the Musqueam people.

This is the first time Vancouver School District has entered into a collective community partnership that has resulted in such a comprehensive Indigenous learning experience. The partnership truly reflects the Musqueam values of ‘working together in the spirit of collaboration and co-existence.’
